I drove with girls to central Finland on Friday, first to my sis, Helena and on Saturday to my mum's.  Mother was staying at Helena's, she had ear doctor's appointment on Thursday and then waited for us to get home.  Jouni didn't come with us, plenty of things to be done at house before we start selling it.

Mum had a flu a week ago and she's really weak now.  But eating and drinking well, sleeping in between meals, able to get up by herself and walking short distances.  Need to get to the doctor's anyway.  Difficult because she doesn't want to get into hospital even though she does realise that it's quite impossible to stay at home alone.  And her head is working as sharp as ever.  So decision is hers.

We had interesting discussion with mum on Sunday morning.  She told me how she applied for a job at the local village school in the early 60's.  My uncle (godfather too but of course much later) applied for the same post or there might have been two vacancies, not sure.  So there was two candidates coming from the same house.  This pissed off the locals and they first choose not so competent teacher and then later closed down the school.  My mother was not a person to be walked over (is this right term??) and she informed inspector about the selection and got the job, finally.  But the process of closing down the school was already ongoing and she was teaching only 2 years there.  Later she got a job at a very nice school which she loved.  But it was 40km from home.  My mum hates driving.

Envy is common in small villages..
